Brighton have rejected a £50m bid from Liverpool for winger Yankuba Minteh, as the Merseyside club accelerate their search for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah.

Minteh, 21, is currently sidelined with an injury that will keep him out for approximately eight weeks, meaning he would not be immediately available even had Brighton accepted the offer. The Gambian international joined Brighton from Newcastle two years ago for £30m and has scored nine goals in 66 appearances for the club. Reports suggest he is willing to make the move to Anfield.

The rejected bid is one of several moves Liverpool have made or explored in the wide-forward market this summer. They submitted a package worth £86m for Yan Diomande, only for the player to leave RB Leipzig for Real Madrid. Liverpool have also registered interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, though a significant gap exists between their valuation and PSG’s asking price of £145m for the France international. PSG teammate Ibrahim Mbaye has also been on Liverpool’s radar.

Liverpool have already added one winger this summer, signing Victor Munoz from Osasuna, and took Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo on loan. However, the club’s primary transfer objective for the remainder of the window remains securing another wide forward, with the bulk of their remaining budget earmarked for that position.

The flurry of approaches underlines the urgency at Anfield as Liverpool plan for life without Salah, whose future at the club beyond the current season remains unresolved. The Minteh inquiry appears to be part of a broader exercise in identifying which targets are both available and financially attainable before the window closes.
