Georgina Rodríguez reacts to fake screenshot targeting Cristiano Ronaldo during World Cup
A fabricated screenshot attributed to Joao Neves' partner accused Cristiano Ronaldo of selfishness and sparked outrage on social media. Georgina Rodríguez responded publicly before Ronaldo called for unity within the Portuguese squad.
A false post attributed to Madalena Aragao, the partner of PSG midfielder Joao Neves, sowed discord around the Portuguese national team during the World Cup. The fabricated message, widely shared online, attributed these words to the young woman targeting Cristiano Ronaldo: “Tell your legend to retire. He is very selfish.” Several media outlets relayed the screenshot without verifying its authenticity, amplifying a controversy with no basis in fact.
It all stemmed from a statement by Joao Neves about Ronaldo’s status within the squad. The midfielder had praised the five-time Ballon d’Or winner while downplaying his current role: “We know what Cristiano has done for us, but right now, he is like us. He is just another player here to help us. He is like everyone else.” Comments that triggered a wave of criticism against the Paris player on social media.
The matter quickly reached Ronaldo’s circle. Georgina Rodríguez, the Portuguese captain’s partner, reacted to the fake post with a cryptic phrase: “Wow!! This generation is coming in strong!!” A comment that, far from defusing the situation, fueled further discussion around the cohesion of the Portuguese dressing room.
Faced with the scale of the controversy, Cristiano Ronaldo chose to respond with an image. The Portuguese captain shared a team photo from training on his social media, accompanied by an unambiguous message: “Always united.” A way of publicly displaying squad solidarity, despite tensions born from fake news.
