Georgia Stanway joins Arsenal on permanent deal after four years with Bayern Munich
England midfielder Georgia Stanway has signed for Arsenal on a permanent basis, returning to the WSL after four seasons in Germany with Bayern Munich, where she won eight trophies.
England midfielder Georgia Stanway has completed a permanent move to Arsenal, the Women’s Super League club confirmed, ending a four-year spell at Bayern Munich in which she won eight trophies and made 128 appearances for the Frauen-Bundesliga side.
The 27-year-old began her senior career at Blackburn before joining Manchester City in 2015, where she spent seven seasons and scored 67 goals in 186 appearances, winning one WSL title, three FA Cups and three League Cups. Her move to Arsenal marks her return to English football and reunites her with the league’s top tier.
Speaking on her signing, Stanway said: “It’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m so proud to be joining Arsenal. This is a massive club that is driving the women’s game forward to new levels and I want to be a part of it. I want to win trophies and grow as a player, and this is the right place to do that with the backing of an incredible fanbase.”
Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers welcomed the addition, saying: “Georgia is a brilliant midfielder and we’re thrilled that she is an Arsenal player. She will add a new dimension to our midfield, bringing experience and adding to our winning mentality.”
Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley described Stanway as “among the best midfielders in the world”, adding that she brings “strong leadership, character and competitiveness” to the squad.
On the international stage, Stanway has earned 93 caps for England and was part of the Lionesses squads that won the European Championship in both 2022 and 2025.
Arsenal finished second in the WSL last season, four points behind champions Manchester City, and reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League before losing to Lyon — the same French side they had defeated on the way to winning the competition for the first time in the club’s history the previous year. Stanway’s arrival signals clear ambition ahead of what Slegers has called “a big campaign ahead.”
