Jadon Sancho is seeking a new Premier League club after parting ways with Manchester United, with the 26-year-old becoming a free agent at the end of June following the conclusion of his five-year spell at Old Trafford. Turkish club Besiktas are reportedly preparing an offer in the coming days, according to outlet Fanatik, but Sancho is prioritising a move within England.

United confirmed his departure in just 44 words, drawing a quiet close to one of the club’s most expensive and underwhelming signings. The club paid £73 million to bring Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, yet he managed only 12 goals in 83 appearances — a return that equates to roughly £6 million per goal. His wages of £250,000 a week compounded the financial damage.

Last season, Sancho spent the campaign on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances but starting only nine. He scored once and registered three assists, a return that left Unai Emery’s side unwilling to pursue a permanent deal.

Sancho’s salary demands are expected to limit the field of interested clubs significantly, with few sides in a position to match his previous earnings. Besiktas were said to have had him on their shortlist during the season, but the winger’s preference for the Premier League appears firm.

Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew offered a measured assessment of Sancho’s prospects. “He hasn’t really done enough to warrant a massive, massive contract like he was on at Man United, but he’ll get a good move,” Pardew said. He also acknowledged the complex negotiations clubs face with out-of-contract players, noting the tension between a manager’s footballing judgement and a club’s financial interest in recouping value.

Sancho, who was omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, is currently taking time away before committing to his next destination. Whether a Premier League club steps forward with terms that satisfy both his ambitions and his wage expectations remains to be seen.
