France Women Beat Poland to Provisionally Top World Cup Qualifying Group
Goals from Malard (47') and Baltimore (63') gave France a 2-0 victory in Gdansk and a two-point lead over the Netherlands in Group A2 of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
France women’s team won 2-0 in Poland in Gdansk on Friday evening during the fifth matchday of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. Les Bleues provisionally top Group A2, two points ahead of the Netherlands.
Without Griedge Mbock and Kadidiatou Diani, Laurent Bonadei’s players had to wait until the second half to make the difference. Melvine Malard opened the scoring in the 47th minute with a delicate chip of her right foot to beat Polish goalkeeper Kinga Seweryn. Sixteen minutes later, Sandy Baltimore doubled the lead with a powerful strike that nestled into the far corner (63’).
With ten points on the board, France now occupy first place in the group, the only position that guarantees direct qualification for the World Cup in Brazil. The Netherlands, who have eight points, can however reclaim top spot with a victory in the Republic of Ireland this same evening, kick-off at 20:30. The clash between the two nations promises to be decisive for the remaining matchdays of the qualifying phase.
