Football legends from Chelsea, Liverpool, Ajax and Real Madrid reunite for Masters European Champions
Claude Makélélé, Jari Litmanen, Nwankwo Kanu and a host of European football icons will take part in the Masters European Champions on 31 May 2026, a one-night legends tournament featuring 14-minute matches.
Claude Makélélé, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Carlo Cudicini headline Chelsea’s squad for the Masters European Champions 2026, a one-night legends tournament bringing together former stars from four of Europe’s most decorated clubs on 31 May 2026, with a 6:30pm BST kick-off.
The format keeps matches short at just 14 minutes apiece, but the rosters are anything but lightweight. Liverpool’s contingent includes Finnish cult hero Jari Litmanen alongside former Premier League strikers Rickie Lambert and Andy Carroll. Ajax, meanwhile, will call on Nigerian icon Nwankwo Kanu and former Netherlands international Gregory van der Wiel.
Real Madrid’s squad carries its own blend of nostalgia, with Geremi, Iván Campo and Álvaro Negredo all set to pull on the famous white shirt once more. Makélélé, who won league titles in both England and Spain during his playing career, adds genuine pedigree to a Chelsea side that should be among the tournament’s favourites.
The event arrives in the immediate aftermath of the European club season’s conclusion, offering fans a chance to see familiar faces from a different era of the game share a pitch one more time. With four clubs and a condensed format, the evening is designed to move quickly and deliver highlights rather than a sustained tactical contest — though the quality of the names involved suggests there will be moments worth watching regardless.
No broadcaster outside the United Kingdom has been confirmed to carry the event at the time of writing.
