Florentino Perez to hand UEFA Negreira dossier at Champions League final
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says he will present UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin with a three-year-prepared dossier on the Negreira case when the two meet at the Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal this weekend.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed he will personally deliver a dossier on the Negreira case to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin at this weekend’s Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. Perez, who has been compiling the document for three years, described the affair as “the biggest corruption case in the history of football.”
“I am going to death, whoever thinks I have forgotten,” Perez told TVE, via Diario AS. “This weekend I’m going to the Champions League final, I was invited by the president of UEFA. I am going to tell him that as soon as the season is over I am going to give him a dossier, which we have been preparing for three years.”
The Negreira case centres on payments made by Barcelona to José María Enríquez Negreira, a former vice-president of Spain’s refereeing committee, over a period of more than a decade. Real Madrid have been among the most vocal clubs demanding accountability, and Perez’s comments signal that the club intends to escalate the matter at European level now that the domestic season has concluded.
The interview came less than two weeks before Perez faces a presidential election at Real Madrid — the club’s first in 20 years. The 79-year-old, who has served as president since 2009, will stand against challenger Enrique Riquelme.
Perez also addressed the search for a new head coach following Alvaro Arbeloa’s departure. He acknowledged having one or two names in mind and did not rule out José Mourinho, though he stopped short of confirming any appointment. “Mourinho is a good coach, clearly. I’m not going to announce it, I haven’t spoken to him yet,” he said.
On the future of Vinicius Junior, whose contract runs until 2027 with no renewal agreed, Perez was candid about the uncertainty. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but if you ask me my opinion, I want him to continue. He’s one of the best in the world.”
