Ferran Torres slams door on PSG: "PSG doesn't interest me"
Targeted by PSG to compensate for the departures of Barcola and Ramos, Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has publicly rejected any Paris approach, while his coach Hansi Flick wants to extend him.
Ferran Torres has firmly closed the door on Paris Saint-Germain. Questioned at a press conference on the sidelines of Spain’s preparation for the World Cup, the FC Barcelona forward was clear: “I know nothing about PSG and it doesn’t interest me!”
The statement from the 26-year-old Spaniard comes as the Parisian club, two-time defending European champions, was seeking to anticipate the announced departures of Bradley Barcola and Gonçalo Ramos. According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, PSG’s interest was notably driven by Luis Enrique, who worked with Torres in the Spanish national team. The Paris manager hoped to rely on this relationship to convince his former player.
But the deal faces a double obstacle. On one hand, Torres himself does not appear tempted by a move to Ligue 1. On the other, Hansi Flick would be firmly opposed to any sale this summer. With Robert Lewandowski announced as leaving, the German coach instead wants to extend Torres, whose contract expires in a year, to preserve his attack.
Last season speaks in Barcelona’s favor in this standoff: Torres scored 21 goals and provided three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. On the international stage, his 24 goals in 57 caps earned him a vice-captain role under Luis De La Fuente.
Valued at around 50 million euros, Torres remains theoretically accessible for PSG. But his public statements seriously complicate the task for Paris executives. The club is also looking at other profiles: Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville and Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes, both key players at West Ham recently relegated to the Championship, are reportedly on the Paris recruitment list.
