Fernandes decides to stay at Man United as Dortmund set £86m price for Nmecha
Bruno Fernandes has told Manchester United team-mates he intends to remain at Old Trafford, rebuffing renewed Saudi interest. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund have valued midfield target Felix Nmecha at £86 million with no release clause.
Bruno Fernandes has informed Manchester United team-mates that he plans to stay at the club, according to talkSPORT, easing concerns over the captain’s future ahead of what promises to be a significant summer rebuild at Old Trafford. A formal decision is not expected until after the World Cup, but there is understood to be no genuine fear of his departure.
Fernandes, 31, attracted interest from several Saudi clubs last summer and faces renewed attention this year, with Al Nassr — potentially set to be managed by Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez — among the interested parties. However, his preference to remain is believed to be driven by family considerations and is therefore seen as unlikely to shift.
On the pitch, Fernandes has started both of Portugal’s opening World Cup group games, registering an assist in a 5-0 win over Uzbekistan. Martinez’s side need a victory against Colombia in their final group fixture to top the group, though a draw would still be enough to advance as runners-up.
With Casemiro’s exit confirmed and Manuel Ugarte’s future uncertain, United are actively scouting midfield reinforcements. Germany international Felix Nmecha has emerged as one of their targets, but Borussia Dortmund are not expected to sell cheaply. German outlet Kicker reports the 25-year-old is valued at £86 million by the Bundesliga club, with no release clause in his contract.
Nmecha, who came through Manchester City’s academy and represented England at youth level, would qualify as a homegrown player under Premier League rules — a factor that adds to his appeal. He has been a consistent presence for Julian Nagelsmann at the World Cup, starting all three of Germany’s group-stage matches and scoring in the tournament.
United have already moved quickly in this window, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson close to completing a move to the club. Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro have both confirmed exits, while Andre Onana is expected to depart on loan. Marcus Rashford’s situation also remains unresolved after his Barcelona loan spell did not lead to a permanent transfer.
