Fenerbahce's new president eyes Salah signing after £77m contract request revealed
Mohamed Salah is keen on a move to Fenerbahce following his Liverpool departure, with the club's newly elected president Aziz Yildirim now weighing a deal reportedly worth £77m over three years. Salah has said he will finalise his next destination after the World Cup.
Mohamed Salah has emerged as a serious transfer target for Fenerbahce, with the Turkish club’s newly elected president Aziz Yildirim set to consider a move for the Egyptian forward after details of a reported £77m contract request were made public.
Yildirim, who won the Fenerbahce presidential election, disclosed the financial terms Salah’s camp is understood to have put forward. “He would ask for a three-year contract, and the total cost would be €90 million [£77m],” Yildirim said, citing figures reported by Turkish outlet Fanatik. “If he is our urgent need, we will sign him. Our football committee will decide on these matters.”
Yildirim’s position has been strengthened by comments from Ertan Torunogullari, the football director who served under outgoing president Sadettin Saran. Torunogullari revealed that preliminary discussions with Salah’s representatives had gone well under the previous administration. “He was very keen on coming to Turkey,” Torunogullari said. “The meetings he had with us were extremely positive. We had established common ground with him on many issues, including his salary. If the new administration makes such a request, I believe Salah will wear the Fenerbahce jersey. We would gladly work with the new administration on negotiations.”
Yildirim is reported to be chairing his first board meeting at the club imminently, at which a potential Salah deal is expected to be discussed. Fenerbahce are also said to have already finalised the return of striker Vedat Muriqi, signalling an active summer in Istanbul.
Salah confirmed at the end of the Premier League season that he would be leaving Liverpool after his contract expires, bringing to a close one of the most decorated individual tenures in the club’s history. The 32-year-old is currently preparing to represent Egypt at the 2026 World Cup in North America and has made clear that a final decision on his next club will follow the tournament.
“I will still see about where to go next,” Salah said. “I have time now, I am going to the World Cup, and then everything will be clear — either if there is a good opportunity before it, I will decide, and if it is not there, I will make my decision after the World Cup.”
Fenerbahce are not the only club to have been linked with Salah since his Anfield exit was confirmed, but the public backing from both the incoming and outgoing administrations at the Istanbul club marks the most concrete indication yet of genuine interest from Turkey.
