Argentinian referee Yael Falcon has been appointed to officiate Sweden’s World Cup 2026 Group F clash against Tunisia in Guadalupe, Mexico, with two fellow Argentinians completing his assistant team.

Falcon has steadily risen through the officiating ranks in Argentina, most recently taking charge of the Primera Division final between River Plate and Belgrano. On the international stage he has handled World Cup qualifier fixtures and games at the most recent Copa America. Maximiliano Del Yesso and Facundo Rodriguez will run the lines alongside him.

The fourth official is Juan Gabriel Calderon of Costa Rica, a significant appointment in its own right — his selection as a central referee at this tournament made him the first Costa Rican to hold that role at a World Cup since the 2002 edition in South Korea and Japan. Calderon has previously officiated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup and various international qualification matches. Fellow Costa Rican Juan Carlos Mora serves as reserve assistant referee.

Monitoring proceedings via VAR is Chilean official Juan Lara, whose main assistant is Uruguayan Antonio Garcia. Hernan Mastrangelo, FIFA-listed since 2023 and a veteran of both the Copa Libertadores final and the 2025 Club World Cup, provides additional support to that pair.

Sweden arrive at the tournament with genuine attacking firepower in Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, making them favourites against Tunisia in what is the final first-round fixture in Group F. The Swedes are eager to make an immediate impression having missed out on the 2022 World Cup entirely.
