England's 1982 World Cup away shirt: what you need to know before buying
With Thomas Tuchel's 26-man England squad confirmed for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, the iconic 1982 away shirt worn by Bryan Robson, Kevin Keegan and Glenn Hoddle is back in the spotlight — currently reduced to £25 at Sports Direct.
Thomas Tuchel has named his 26-man England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be held across the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer, turning attention toward the Three Lions’ heritage as well as their present-day ambitions.
Among the retro items drawing interest is England’s 1982 Away Shirt, the jersey worn at that year’s World Cup in Spain by a squad featuring Bryan Robson, Kevin Keegan and Glenn Hoddle. England were eliminated in the second group stage after goalless draws with the hosts and West Germany. The shirt features a predominantly red body with white and blue stripes across the upper chest and shoulders — a design that has retained its appeal more than four decades on.
The replica is currently on sale at Sports Direct, reduced from £49.99 to £25. New members of cashback platform TopCashback can reduce that price further to £9.79 by combining a £15 sign-up bonus with cashback on Sports Direct purchases. Existing TopCashback members pay £24.79 after cashback. Standard delivery from Sports Direct costs an additional £4.99. Even with shipping factored in, the price undercuts rival retailer Fanatics, where the same shirt is listed at £40.
For those interested in England’s current strip, The FA and Nike unveiled the 2026 World Cup kits earlier this year. The home, away and goalkeeper jerseys each incorporate subtle imagery of lions and flags woven into the fabric. Adult prices start at £89.99 and children’s at £64.99.
