England return to all-white kit for World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami
England will wear their preferred all-white strip for the World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami, after FIFA's kit-clash regulations forced them into navy shorts for earlier matches against Ghana and Mexico.
England will revert to their all-white first-choice kit for the World Cup quarter-final against Norway in Miami, after FIFA confirmed the colour combination clears the governing body’s strict contrast regulations.
Thomas Tuchel’s side had been required to pair their white shirt with navy shorts for two previous fixtures — the group-stage meeting with Ghana and the round-of-16 victory over co-hosts Mexico. That 3-2 win in Mexico City, which secured England’s place in the last eight, was played under the same navy-shorts arrangement because Mexico, as the designated home team, were entitled to wear their preferred green-and-white strip first.
England’s standard tournament kit — white shirt, white shorts, white socks — was worn in their opening group match against Croatia and the knockout tie against DR Congo, and it will return for the clash with Erling Haaland’s Norway.
The kit decision is governed by two FIFA rules. Rule 6.2.1 of the FIFA Equipment Regulations requires each item of clothing worn by one side to contrast sufficiently with the corresponding item worn by the opposing team. Article 30 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Regulations adds that both teams should ideally wear their first-choice strips, but where a clash exists, the designated home side (Team A) takes priority, followed by the away side, and then the goalkeepers and officials.
For the quarter-final, Norway are the designated home team but will wear a modified version of their home kit — a red top combined with navy shorts rather than their usual white shorts. That adjustment removes any conflict with England’s all-white ensemble, freeing Tuchel’s players to wear their preferred strip.
England have worn a white shirt in all but one of their matches at the tournament, and the return to the full white kit will be welcomed by a squad that has grown in confidence through the knockout rounds. A quarter-final against Norway, with Haaland leading the attack in the Miami heat, represents the sternest test yet of a campaign that has steadily gathered momentum.
