England fan confronts alleged racist at World Cup and slams stewards for failing to eject him
YouTube personality Morgan Burtwistle, known as Angry Ginge, reported a supporter for alleged racist comments directed at the Ghanaian national team during England's 0-0 draw with Ghana in Boston on Tuesday, only to see the fan relocated rather than removed from the stadium.
Morgan Burtwistle, the YouTube content creator known as Angry Ginge, has condemned the stewarding response at the 2026 World Cup after confronting and reporting a fan for alleged racism during England’s 0-0 draw with Ghana at Boston Stadium on Tuesday.
Burtwistle, 24 and a Manchester United supporter, filmed the incident and posted the video after the match. In the footage, he points to a seat in front of him and says: “We have a situation where the gentleman that is sat there is being racist. I’ve reported it to the steward because, kick it out is the saying, I will stand by that.”
A caption in the video states that the man had been “making incredibly racist comments toward the Ghanaian national team.” Burtwistle did not reveal the specific remarks, but the supporter can be seen turning around and saying: “I’m sorry about my comment about Ghana, it won’t happen again. Can we just forget about it?” Burtwistle replied: “Forget about you being racist!? No, mate.”
Burtwistle claims a steward initially told him no action could be taken unless the fan repeated the comment — a response he rejected outright, pointing to multiple witnesses who had heard the remark. The fan was eventually removed from his seat, but Burtwistle says he was simply moved to another section of the stadium and allowed to watch the rest of the game.
“It’s absolutely not good enough from the American stewards,” Burtwistle said. “The message before the game is kick it out — if you see it, say it. I’ve gone and reported it, he’s not been kicked out of the stadium. We saw him as we left, he’s been allowed to watch the whole game after the things he was saying about the Ghana team.”
He added: “I think it’s an absolute f***ing disgrace he’s been allowed to stay in after I had the evidence and five witnesses heard him say it. I did my part, I couldn’t have done any more.”
The incident overshadowed what was a disappointing result for England on the pitch. Having opened Group L with a 4-2 victory over Croatia in Dallas, Gareth Southgate’s side were held scoreless by Carlos Queiroz’s Ghana in their second group fixture.
