Egypt's Trezeguet and Zico complete the full A-to-Z goalscorer alphabet at the 2026 World Cup
Two goals from Egypt's Trezeguet and Mostafa Zico against New Zealand on Sunday gave the 2026 World Cup a goalscorer for every letter of the alphabet — a milestone no previous World Cup has achieved.
Two goals from Egypt’s Trezeguet and Mostafa Zico against New Zealand in the group stage on Sunday gave the 2026 World Cup a goalscorer for every letter of the alphabet, completing a milestone no World Cup in history has previously managed.
With more than 100 goals already scored across the tournament — including strikes from Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Harry Kane’s retaken penalty — the 2026 edition had been inching toward the record. The closest any previous tournament came was the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which produced a goalscorer for every letter except Y. Lamine Yamal’s goal for Spain filled that gap this time around, before Zico’s effort sealed the final letter.
Organised by surname, the complete first-goalscorer list for each letter of the alphabet is as follows:
A — Yasin Ayari (Sweden)
B — Folarin Balogun (USA)
C — Livano Comenencia (Curaçao)
D — not listed in source
E — Breel Embolo (Switzerland)
F — Alex Freeman (USA)
G — not listed in source
H — Hwang In-beom (South Korea)
I — not listed in source
J — Raúl Jiménez (Mexico)
K — Ladislav Krejčí (Czechia)
L — not listed in source
M — Ermin Mahmić (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
N — Felix Nmecha (Germany)
O — Oh Hyeon-gyu (South Korea)
P — Kevin Pina (Cape Verde)
Q — Julián Quiñones (Mexico)
R — Giovanni Reyna (USA)
S — Ismael Saibari (Morocco)
T — Trezeguet (Egypt)
U — Deniz Undav (Germany)
V — Vinícius Júnior (Brazil)
W — Yoane Wissa (DR Congo)
X — Granit Xhaka (Switzerland)
Y — Lamine Yamal (Spain)
Z — Mostafa Zico (Egypt)
The achievement underlines the breadth of nations and players contributing to what is already a high-scoring tournament, with the group stage still ongoing and the knockout rounds yet to come.
