Disappointing Draw and Jackson's Red Card: Senegal Concerns Mount Before France Clash
Held to a 0-0 draw by Saudi Arabia ten days after their 3-2 defeat to the United States, the Lions of Teranga approach the 2026 World Cup lacking confidence, just a week before their opening match against France.
Senegal failed to inspire confidence ten days before their World Cup 2026 opener. In the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the Lions of Teranga were held to a 0-0 draw by Saudi Arabia in their final warm-up match before facing France on June 16.
This result follows a 3-2 defeat to the United States ten days earlier, and confirms the struggles of a team lacking inspiration, at times under pressure. Goalkeeper Édouard Mendy prevented a worse outcome, making several decisive saves to preserve the draw.
The evening also ended on a sour note with Nicolas Jackson’s expulsion. The Bayern Munich striker received two yellow cards within two minutes, in the 82nd and 84th minutes. This sanction will have no direct consequences for the match against Didier Deschamps’ side: Jackson will be available for the clash against France.
With two warm-up matches without a win and insufficient attacking play, Sadio Mané’s Senegal approach this World Cup in worrying form. France, their first-round opponent, will have taken note.
