Diomande admits PSG dream as Liverpool chase RB Leipzig winger to replace Salah
Yan Diomande has publicly declared his admiration for PSG, complicating Liverpool's pursuit of the 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger. The Ivorian scored 13 goals and contributed 23 goal involvements in 36 appearances last season.
Yan Diomande has openly declared his affection for Paris Saint-Germain, casting doubt over Liverpool’s hopes of signing the RB Leipzig winger this summer. The 19-year-old Ivorian, who registered 13 goals and 23 goal involvements across 36 appearances for Leipzig last season, is widely expected to leave the German club after a breakout campaign.
Speaking to Telefoot, Diomande made his feelings clear: “Paris Saint-Germain is a team I’ve loved since I was little. My father is a Paris Saint-Germain supporter; it’s a team I admire as a football fan.” He added: “It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs. It’s always a pleasure to come here because, already, with French, I think the adaptation won’t be difficult. But why not.”
Liverpool have identified Diomande as a candidate to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah, who has departed Anfield after a trophy-laden spell. Luis Diaz has also left the club, leaving incoming head coach Andoni Iraola with two flank positions to address in what is shaping up to be a summer of significant rebuilding at Liverpool.
RB Leipzig’s business model — buying young talent, developing it, and selling at a profit — makes a departure this summer likely. That commercial reality means Liverpool remain in contention despite Diomande’s public admiration for the Ligue 1 champions.
PSG, who recently retained the Champions League, already have Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Bradley Barcola competing for wide positions, yet the club is reportedly still exploring further reinforcements on the flanks.
For now, Diomande says his focus is elsewhere. “I don’t think I’m thinking about the future or anything else,” he said. “I’m focused on the World Cup. After that, what will happen is that the clubs will work things out amongst themselves, and we’ll see what happens next.” The winger is expected to be a key figure for Ivory Coast as they bid to reach the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time in their history.
