Denzel Dumfries joins Real Madrid for €20 million, contract signed
Dutch international Denzel Dumfries (71 caps) has signed with Real Madrid after Inter Milan's €20 million release clause was activated, according to Fabrizio Romano. The official announcement is expected soon from Florentino Perez.
Denzel Dumfries will indeed be a Real Madrid player next season. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Dutch right-back has signed his contract with the Spanish club, passed his medical examination, and Inter Milan has been informed of the activation of his release clause, set at €20 million and valid until July.
Florentino Perez, candidate for re-election as Real Madrid president, is expected to officially announce Dumfries’ arrival in the coming days. The international with 71 caps and 11 goals for the Netherlands comes to strengthen the right flank where Trent Alexander-Arnold, unconvincing in his first season at Madrid, has not yet fully convinced.
This recruitment is part of a broader defensive reconstruction policy. Real Madrid suffered during the past season from repeated absences of Antonio Rüdiger and Eder Militao, two pillars of its defence. To address this fragility, Perez has made Ibrahima Konaté a stated priority. “If I remain president, Konaté will play for Real Madrid from next season. He will be my first signing,” the executive said in an interview with newspaper AS.
The Liverpool centre-back, former teammate of Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Reds, is therefore also expected in Madrid, which would bring to two the number of defensive recruits announced by Florentino Perez for this summer. The Merengue club intends to rebuild a solid defence after a season deemed disappointing, both in La Liga and in the UEFA Champions League.
