De Gea tells Fiorentina he will only leave Serie A for Manchester United return
David de Gea has made clear that Manchester United is the only club he would leave Fiorentina for this summer, according to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, with La Viola reportedly ready to listen to offers for the 35-year-old.
David de Gea has told Fiorentina that Manchester United is the only destination he would consider leaving the Italian club for this summer, according to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, which reports that La Viola are now ‘ready to listen to offers’ for the Spanish goalkeeper.
De Gea, 35, left United in June 2023 after 12 years and 545 appearances at Old Trafford, departing as a free agent when his contract expired. He spent more than a year without a club before joining Fiorentina in August 2024, where he impressed in his debut Serie A season — keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding 50 goals in 42 appearances — earning a new three-year contract at the Tuscan club.
However, De Gea endured a more difficult 2025/26 campaign, and speculation over his future has resurfaced ahead of the summer window. The timing is notable for United, who are expected to lose both André Onana and Altay Bayindir this summer, potentially leaving Senne Lammens — who enjoyed a standout first season at Old Trafford — as the club’s only senior goalkeeper.
United had already explored the possibility of re-signing De Gea last summer. After an eye-catching appearance in a pre-season friendly at Old Trafford — which ended 1-1 — the club made ‘discreet background checks’ on the Spaniard. Ultimately, United opted to sign Lammens instead, and De Gea stayed in Florence.
De Gea spoke openly about the emotion of returning to Old Trafford last August. “It’s a game I’ll never forget, for sure,” he said. “Sometimes it’s difficult to describe with words how you feel on the pitch, seeing the crowd, with everybody there. It was so emotional for me.”
With the goalkeeper situation at United set to look very different heading into next season, De Gea’s reported insistence on a return to his former club could yet set the stage for one of the more sentimental transfers of the summer window.
