Criticized after moving from RMC to RTL, Jean Rességuié recounts the messages he received
A year after leaving RMC for RTL by activating his severance clause, commentator Jean Rességuié reveals he faced a wave of harsh criticism upon arriving at his new station, despite his departure from RMC being praised by many listeners.
Jean Rességuié did not mince words describing the welcome he received upon arriving at RTL: “I got absolutely slammed,” the 62-year-old commentator confided during the “Buzz TV” show, while promoting his book.
A year ago, the native of Montauban was commentating his 2,587th and final match on RMC’s airwaves — the UEFA Nations League final between Portugal and Spain. A few days later, he signed with RTL by activating his severance clause, a legal provision allowing a journalist to leave a press company on his own initiative while receiving severance pay, notably activable in the event of the sale of a publication or station.
While his departure from RMC had sparked a wave of warm messages, the video announcing his arrival at RTL provoked the opposite reaction from part of the audience. “I know there are many listeners who didn’t understand or had difficulty understanding that I would bounce back just three days later at RTL,” he explained.
A historic figure at the station, which he had joined in the early 2000s to present the sports bulletin on the morning show before becoming the “voice of football,” Rességuié — nicknamed “Jano” by his colleagues — thus ended nearly half a century of broadcasting on RMC’s airwaves.
For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he covers the event from Paris for the M6 group, where he used to travel to match venues during his time at RMC.
