Copa del Rey 2026-27 First-Round Draw Sets 112 Teams on Collision Course
The first-round draw for the 2026-27 Copa del Rey takes place on Monday 5 October at 13:00 CEST, with 112 teams learning their opening opponents. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad enter later at the round of 32.
The 2026-27 Copa del Rey first-round draw is scheduled for Monday 5 October at 13:00 CEST at the Luis Aragonés auditorium in the Ciudad Deportiva de Las Rozas, with 112 clubs set to discover their opening opponents. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad are absent from this stage, entering at the round of 32 as a result of their participation in the Spanish Super Cup, bringing the edition’s total entry to 116 teams.
The draw field includes 16 Primera División clubs and 22 from Segunda División, alongside teams from lower categories. Real Racing are among the top-flight sides involved, illustrating the breadth of divisions represented before the four Super Cup participants join the competition.
The format is directed rather than entirely open. Lower-division clubs are paired with opponents from higher categories, and geographical proximity is factored into how ties are formed — a structure that preserves the Copa del Rey’s traditional appeal of top-flight visitors arriving at smaller grounds.
First-round matches are scheduled across three days: 27, 28 and 29 October. The draw on Monday therefore gives clubs and supporters a clear picture of the opening fixtures more than three weeks before the games are played.
For Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético and Real Sociedad, the wait continues. Their Copa campaigns will not begin until the round of 32, by which point the rest of the field will already have navigated their first competitive test of the season.
