Clauss acknowledges past infidelities and pays tribute to his wife Pauline
In a documentary about football and romantic relationships, OGC Nice defender Jonathan Clauss spoke candidly about his former infidelities and the decisive role his wife Pauline played in rebuilding their relationship.
Jonathan Clauss lifted the veil on his romantic life with unusual candor, publicly acknowledging his past infidelities and praising his wife Pauline’s resilience in rebuilding their relationship.
Questioned in a documentary devoted to footballers and romantic life, the 34-year-old right-back for OGC Nice and French international did not seek to downplay his responsibilities. “I couldn’t fully satisfy myself with what I had. I always wanted more. As soon as I ended a relationship, I started a new one. Then there were lies, infidelities,” he admitted.
Clauss describes a period of his life when carelessness took precedence over any consideration for others. “I wanted to go out, enjoy myself, be in a relationship, I wanted everything. I was a little bastard,” he says bluntly. He notably recounts a particularly embarrassing episode: a woman with whom he was having an affair exposed him live to his girlfriend at the time via a video call leaving a nightclub, forcing Pauline to confront the situation.
Married to Pauline for over a year, the player now measures the distance traveled and, above all, what he owes his wife. “If we’re here, it’s because she stayed. I’m grateful for the decisions she made for us because deep down, not everything is healed,” he confides, acknowledging that the wounds of the past don’t entirely fade away.
This statement contrasts with the usual communication of professional footballers, often confined to the strict sporting framework. By assuming his mistakes without reservation and highlighting Pauline’s determining role, Clauss delivers a rare testimony about the personal fragilities that often hide behind the public image of a high-level athlete.
