Paris Saint-Germain could experience an unprecedented upheaval in its goalkeeper department during the next summer transfer window. According to L’Équipe, Lucas Chevalier would no longer have a future at the club, and the departure of the former Lille player would immediately trigger a search for a new goalkeeper by Paris executives.

This situation is partly explained by the rise of Matveï Safonov. The Russian goalkeeper managed to reverse the hierarchy during the season, notably taking advantage of Chevalier’s injury in the match at Monaco to establish himself in the Paris goal. His unconventional style, inherited from his years at Krasnodar, remains however a question mark regarding his long-term compatibility with Luis Enrique’s demands.

The other issue concerns Renato Marin. The Italian-Brazilian international, who started twice at the end of the season, is perceived internally as an element with strong potential. Rather than confining him to a backup role, PSG would be considering loaning him out to allow him to accumulate playing time during the 2025-2026 season. Opportunities would exist in Ligue 1, but also in Spain and Portugal.

While Luis Enrique is not in the habit of reshaping his squad in depth from one season to another, the goalkeeper position could therefore be an exception this summer, with a trio in full recomposition around a Safonov now in a position of strength.
