Chelsea demand £120m for Enzo Fernandez as Real Madrid weigh summer midfield options

Chelsea have set an asking price of £120m (€138m) for Enzo Fernandez, who is keen on a move to Real Madrid this summer. With the Argentine under contract until 2032, the Blues are under no pressure to sell and Madrid are currently unwilling to meet that valuation.

Chelsea are demanding £120m (€138m) for midfielder Enzo Fernandez, placing a significant obstacle in front of Real Madrid as they look to reshape their midfield ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Real Madrid first considered signing Fernandez following his standout performances at the 2022 World Cup, but Chelsea moved faster, completing a deal to bring him from Benfica during the January 2023 transfer window for a fee well in excess of €100m. Madrid never fully moved on, and the Argentine himself is reportedly determined to make the move to the Bernabéu.

Chelsea, however, are in no hurry. Fernandez is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2032, and the club regard him as a key player — factors that are directly reflected in their valuation, according to the BBC. Real Madrid are currently not prepared to meet that asking price.

The path to a deal may therefore run through the Bernabéu’s own transfer activity. Madrid could only realistically fund a move of that scale if they first raise significant funds through player sales. Eduardo Camavinga and Gonzalo Garcia have both been mentioned internally as potential candidates to be sold this summer, and their departures would free up meaningful budget for incoming transfers.

Should Chelsea hold firm at €138m, Real Madrid may ultimately look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements. The club’s sporting department has been assessing multiple targets in recent months, and Fernandez — however attractive — is not the only name under consideration.

The situation is fluid, but the gap between Chelsea’s valuation and Madrid’s willingness to spend means a deal is far from straightforward, even with the player’s own desire to move factored in.
