Chelsea confirm £52m Cucurella sale to Real Madrid on a six-year deal
Marc Cucurella has left Chelsea for Real Madrid in a £51.7m deal, ending a near four-year stay at Stamford Bridge. The left-back, currently on World Cup duty with Spain, will formally join the Santiago Bernabéu after the tournament.
Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid in a deal worth £51.7 million, both clubs confirmed, bringing the Spanish left-back’s four-year stint at Stamford Bridge to a close.
The package comprises an initial fee of £47.4 million plus £4.3 million in add-ons, and Cucurella will be tied to the Santiago Bernabéu on a six-year contract running until 30 June 2032. The 27-year-old is currently on international duty with Spain at the World Cup in North America and will formally complete the move once the tournament concludes.
“Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid,” Chelsea said in a statement. “During Cucurella’s stay at Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old defender regularly represented the Spanish national team and won the UEFA European Championships in 2024. Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements.”
Real Madrid echoed the announcement, confirming Cucurella “will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
Cucurella arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion for £63 million, making 150 appearances for the club. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup last year.
The departure lands at a significant moment for Chelsea. It comes just ahead of Xabi Alonso’s first official day as manager on 1 July, meaning the incoming head coach will begin his tenure without the left-back who started the majority of games in that position last season. Whether Chelsea move to sign a replacement remains unclear.
Chelsea finished tenth in the Premier League last season and will not be competing in European football next term, leaving questions over the club’s broader transfer ambitions for the summer window.
