Camavinga's Real Madrid stay opens door for United to land Tchouameni in midfield overhaul

Manchester United’s pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has gained fresh momentum after Eduardo Camavinga ruled out leaving the Bernabeu, potentially forcing Madrid to sell Tchouameni to fund their own summer business, according to The Athletic.

New Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to bring in a creative midfielder — with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez identified as a target — and needs to raise funds by moving on at least one senior player. With Fede Valverde unavailable and Dani Ceballos willing to leave on a free despite a year remaining on his contract, Tchouameni has emerged as the most saleable asset.

The Mail has named Tchouameni as one of six midfielders on United’s shortlist to partner Atalanta’s Ederson, whose arrival at Old Trafford appears all but confirmed. The remaining five candidates are all Premier League-based: Tyler Adams, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, West Ham’s Alex Scott, and Adam Wharton.

The midfield rebuild is being driven by necessity. Casemiro has ended his four-year spell in English football, while Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia are also set to depart, leaving Michael Carrick — confirmed as permanent manager following an impressive interim stint — with significant gaps to fill ahead of a return to Champions League football.

Goalkeeper uncertainty is another subplot developing at Old Trafford. Senne Lammens impressed during his debut campaign, raising questions over the futures of Andre Onana and Radek Vitek, both of whom have been linked with moves away in search of regular first-team football. Onana spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, though where either goalkeeper plays next term remains unresolved.

United’s transfer activity this summer will partly depend on further outgoings to free up additional funds, with the club’s hierarchy navigating a complex set of contractual and financial considerations as Carrick looks to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
