Camavinga's Real Madrid loyalty clears path for United's Tchouameni pursuit
Eduardo Camavinga's refusal to leave Real Madrid could force the club to sell Aurélien Tchouameni instead, handing Manchester United a clearer route to one of their top midfield targets ahead of a Champions League return.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouameni has gained unexpected momentum after Eduardo Camavinga ruled out a summer exit, potentially forcing Madrid to sell Tchouameni to fund their own transfer ambitions.
According to The Athletic, new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in a creative midfielder — with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez among those linked — and needs to move players on to free up funds. Fede Valverde is not available, Dani Ceballos is reportedly willing to leave on a free despite a year remaining on his deal, and with Camavinga considering a departure “impossible”, Tchouameni has emerged as the most likely candidate to be sold.
The Mail has named Tchouameni as one of six midfielders on United’s shortlist, alongside Atalanta’s Ederson — who has all-but confirmed his arrival at Old Trafford — and five Premier League-based options: Tyler Adams, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott, and Adam Wharton. Midfield reinforcement is a clear priority for manager Michael Carrick as the club prepares to return to Champions League football, with Casemiro having completed a permanent exit this summer alongside Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia.
In goal, United’s plans are also in flux. Senne Lammens impressed during his debut season at Old Trafford, raising questions about the futures of André Onana and Radek Vitek. Onana spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, and while the Turkish club’s president Ertugrul Dogan expressed a desire to make the move permanent, reports from Sabah suggest Trabzonspor have also begun exploring alternatives, including Wolves goalkeeper José Sá.
Vitek, meanwhile, had an impressive loan spell at Bristol City, though his situation for next season remains unresolved. United’s summer business is far from complete, with several moving parts still to settle both in terms of arrivals and departures.
