Brazil and Morocco draw 1-1, Australia stuns Turkey at 2026 World Cup
Brazil and Morocco played to a 1-1 draw in New York in the opening clash of the 2026 World Cup, with Ismael Saibari scoring first before Vinicius Jr equalized. Australia delivered the weekend's surprise by defeating Turkey 2-0 in Group D.
The first major showdown of the 2026 World Cup ended without a winner: Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1 in the early hours of Sunday in New York. Ismael Saibari opened the scoring in the 21st minute for the Lions of the Atlas, before Vinicius Jr equalized eleven minutes later.
In Group C, Scotland took the lead thanks to a narrow victory over Haiti (1-0), sealed by John McGinn in the 28th minute.
The weekend’s surprise came from Group D, where Australia dominated Turkey without breaking a sweat (2-0). Nestory Irankunda (27th) and Connor Metcalfe (75th) allowed the Socceroos to join the United States at the top of the group, following the Americans’ emphatic victory over Paraguay the day before (4-1).
Sunday, June 14 marks the entry of two heavyweights: Germany, facing Curaçao at 7 p.m., and the Netherlands, taking on Japan at 10 p.m.

Among upcoming fixtures, France face Senegal on Tuesday, June 17 at 9 p.m., while Argentina begin their campaign against Algeria on Wednesday, June 18 at 3 a.m.
