Yassine Bounou delivered one of the best World Cups of his career wearing the Morocco shirt, and Fenerbahçe intends to capitalize on it. According to Turkish media Fanatik, the Istanbul club has made the 35-year-old goalkeeper its absolute priority in this summer’s transfer window.

The Al-Hilal goalkeeper once again impressed at the 2026 World Cup, particularly against France in the quarter-finals where he saved a penalty from Kylian Mbappé and made several decisive stops. These performances reminded the world that Bounou remains among the elite at his position, despite his age.

Fenerbahçe’s interest is, however, conditional on the departure of Ederson, the club’s current goalkeeper, who reportedly has ambitions elsewhere. If that door opens, the Turkish executives, who finished second in the league last season, would be ready to make a concrete offer.

Two major obstacles stand in the way of this move. First, convincing Bounou himself to leave Saudi Arabia, where he settled three years ago after his spell at FC Seville. Second, and above all, persuading Al-Hilal to release a player still tied to the club until June 2028.

If the transfer were to materialize, Bounou would reunite in Istanbul with his Morocco teammate Sofyan Amrabat, returning to the club after a loan at Betis. He would also play alongside N’Golo Kanté and Marco Asensio, a former Paris Saint-Germain player.
