Danny Dyer expects Jarrod Bowen to stay at West Ham despite Championship relegation
Actor and West Ham supporter Danny Dyer, father-in-law of Hammers captain Jarrod Bowen, says he does not expect the England international to leave the club this summer, despite interest from Premier League sides following West Ham's relegation.
Jarrod Bowen looks increasingly likely to remain at West Ham United for their first season in the Championship, after his father-in-law Danny Dyer publicly backed the captain to stay and help the club win promotion back to the Premier League.
Dyer, whose daughter Dani is married to Bowen, told talkSPORT that he expects the 29-year-old forward to see out his contract at the London Stadium despite the club’s relegation from the top flight. “I don’t think he’s going anywhere, and I think he will rip up the Championship, don’t you worry yourself about that,” Dyer said.
The actor did acknowledge that Bowen’s quality merits the highest level of football, adding: “He does deserve Champions League football and whatever decision he makes, or made, I would have supported him.” He described Bowen as “a very great, loyal man” and the father of his grandchildren, noting it had been a tough period for the family.
Bowen himself hinted at staying when speaking in May, saying: “I’m under contract here. I’ve been here six and a half years. There’s going to be rumours, there’s going to be talk. Ultimately, what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League because that is where it deserves to be.”
The England international finished the relegated season with 11 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, a return that attracted loose interest from Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Everton. Reports have placed his asking price somewhere between £40 million and £50 million.
West Ham have already lost one key asset this summer, with Mateus Fernandes completing an £85 million move to Tottenham Hotspur following the club’s drop to the second tier. Bowen’s decision to remain, if confirmed, would represent a significant statement of intent as the Hammers plot an immediate return to the Premier League.
