Bella Mir vows to return stronger after shock DWCS loss ends UFC contract bid

Bella Mir, daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, was beaten by Alex Apodaca on Week 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, missing out on a UFC contract in one of the season’s biggest upsets. UFC CEO Dana White called her immediately after the defeat and shared details of the conversation at the DWCS Week 4 post-fight press conference.

White said Mir was composed and resolute despite the setback. “She was in a good place,” he told reporters. “She’s like, ‘Listen, I’ve lost before. I’ve lost jiu-jitsu matches. I’ve lost wrestling matches. You know, I’ve lost before; I know what it feels like to lose and I’m good. I’ll be back and I’ll come back stronger.’”

Mir had entered the bout as a heavily favoured prospect, making the defeat all the more striking. White acknowledged the result was a surprise but was clearly encouraged by her response to it.

When asked whether Mir could be given another shot on DWCS later in Season 10, White left the door open. He said the decision would ultimately rest with Mir and her father, stopping short of confirming any plans.

Frank Mir is one of the most decorated heavyweights in UFC history, having held the heavyweight title twice and submitted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Brock Lesnar during his career. Bella has been building her own combat sports profile across grappling and MMA, and her appearance on DWCS represented a significant step up in visibility.

Whether she returns to the Contender Series this season or targets a future slot, White’s public support signals that the UFC has not closed the door on her prospects.
