Bayern Munich have registered an interest in Marcus Rashford but are not actively pursuing a transfer, with concerns over the forward’s wage demands and a competing priority target making a move to the Allianz Arena unlikely this summer.

According to German outlet Bild, Bayern made contact with Rashford’s representatives after losing out on Anthony Gordon to Barcelona. However, the Bundesliga champions are currently prioritising a deal for PSV forward Ismael Saibari, and the salary Rashford would command is considered a significant obstacle.

Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains unresolved after his loan spell with Barcelona came to an end. The Catalans held a £26m option to sign the England forward permanently but chose not to activate it, with that option now expired. Reports suggest Barcelona could attempt to negotiate a fresh loan arrangement, though United are not expected to sanction another temporary deal.

The 27-year-old has made clear he sees his long-term future away from Old Trafford, with talks between his camp and United chiefs expected to take place following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

Former United captain Rio Ferdinand has called on the club to reconsider their stance. “Manchester United might have to reevaluate Marcus Rashford’s situation,” Ferdinand said. “It seems like he has matured; the time away from the club may have done him the good that he needed, and it has cleansed both parties. Is it time to shake hands and come back?”

Ferdinand also suggested Rashford’s Barcelona experience had given him renewed clarity on his role. “He was given a role at Barcelona, told he would be an impact player at times, to come on and change games. At England, that is his role, and that’s a huge asset to the squad.”

On the international stage, Rashford has made an immediate impact at the 2026 World Cup, scoring in England’s 4-2 opening victory over Croatia. England manager Thomas Tuchel praised the forward’s attitude throughout the build-up to the tournament. “Marcus is pushing and pushing and pushing and training on the highest level,” Tuchel said. “I’m very happy for him that he got this relief and I hope he stays hungry for the next one because he was absolutely impressive through the last 17 days and really deserved his goal.”
