Bayern Munich has made its choice: among its four representatives in the 30-man Ballon d’Or 2026 shortlist, it is Harry Kane who will receive the club’s official backing. The decision, revealed by L’Équipe, comes as the verdict will be announced on 29 October in London.

The 30-man list, unveiled on 8 September by France Football, has not produced a clear favourite. Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal have already launched their communication campaigns, but Bayern has chosen a different path: to unite behind a single candidate rather than spread its votes between Olise, Kane, Luis Diaz and Dayot Upamecano.

The choice is justified by the numbers. Kane scored 61 goals in all competitions in Bayern colours last season, a performance that has earned him the backing of several teammates in a video published on the club’s official channel. Michael Olise himself speaks in it: “Why would Harry deserve the Ballon d’Or? Because he is simply the best.”

The statement is surprising given Olise’s own season. The French international finished the 2025-2026 campaign with 25 goals and 28 assists in all competitions, statistics that earned him a place on the final list. By publicly backing Kane, he is effectively renouncing any official campaign from his club.

Ousmane Dembélé’s successor, crowned in the previous edition, will be known in a month and a half.
