16-year-old Dowman scores stunning solo goal to put Arsenal ahead at Ipswich in Carabao Cup

Max Dowman marked his first appearance of the 2025-26 season with a stunning solo goal to put Arsenal ahead at Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup third round at Portman Road.

The 16-year-old struck in the sixth minute, picking the ball up just inside the Ipswich half and driving towards goal. He danced past centre-back Cedric Kipre on the edge of the box, leaving the defender tumbling to the ground, before slamming a fierce strike inside the near post.

The goal was a reward for Dowman’s patience. Mikel Arteta’s side had begun the new campaign with six wins from six in all competitions, and the teenager had been waiting for his opportunity to break into the starting line-up.

Dowman is no stranger to landmark moments. In March he became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history when he netted Arsenal’s second in a 2-0 win over Everton — a result that kept the Gunners on course for the title. He sat his GCSEs towards the end of that same season while also contributing to Arsenal’s Premier League title triumph and their run to the Champions League final.

His Carabao Cup strike serves as a reminder of the depth of talent Arteta has at his disposal, with one of English football’s most exciting young prospects continuing to make his case for regular first-team involvement.
