Bardghji and Flick agree summer departure is best for Barcelona winger
Roony Bardghji is set to leave Barcelona this summer after Hansi Flick told the Swedish winger he would welcome his exit. The 19-year-old, who joined from FC Copenhagen last summer, will prioritise a loan move but would accept a permanent transfer if the club requires it.
Roony Bardghji is expected to leave Barcelona this summer after both Hansi Flick and the player himself concluded that a move away is in his best interest, according to a report by Sport. The Swedish winger, who arrived from FC Copenhagen ahead of the 2024-25 season, has struggled for regular minutes and is unlikely to see that change next term.
Flick reportedly informed Bardghji that he does not envisage a significant role for him in his plans, a situation set to become more acute following the imminent arrival of Anthony Gordon. With the head coach aligned with the club’s openness to an exit, Bardghji has accepted that pursuing more playing time elsewhere is the right call.
Despite Barcelona’s willingness to sell, Bardghji’s preference is a loan deal that would allow him to maintain his ties to the Catalan club. He would, however, agree to a permanent transfer should the club’s financial position demand it.
Bardghji is one of several players Barcelona are looking to move on as they attempt to fund a significant summer rebuild. Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and backup Iñaki Peña are both considered surplus to requirements by Flick, while midfielder Marc Casado is also available given his position low in the pecking order.
Clearing those wages and transfer fees will be central to Barcelona’s ability to bring in their primary targets. How Bardghji’s situation ultimately resolves — loan or sale — may depend as much on the club’s broader financial manoeuvring as on the player’s own wishes.
