Barcola suffered from cramps, Iraola deems him available for Fulham

Bradley Barcola should be available for Liverpool’s trip to Fulham, with manager Andoni Iraola ruling out any injury on Friday. The French winger, substituted in the 60th minute of the victory against Atlético Madrid (2-1) in the Ligue des Champions, was simply suffering from cramps.

The Reds’ most expensive summer signing, the former PSG player was making his first start in his new colours. He had created two big chances before leaving the pitch complaining of a calf problem. An early withdrawal that had raised concerns, but Iraola quickly dispelled the doubts.

“For Barcola, it was just cramps,” explained the Spanish manager on Friday. “We need to assess his condition today, but there is no injury. He should, I think, be available if everything goes normally.” The manager attributed this episode to a shortened preparation with PSG before his transfer to Liverpool.

Iraola also provided an update on Cody Gakpo, who was unavailable against Atlético due to an adductor injury. “For Cody, we’ll see. He didn’t train yesterday. Today we’ll do a test with him and see if he’s ready for tomorrow or if we need to wait for the next match.”

The case of Hugo Ekitiké is more concerning. The young French striker, victim of an Achilles tendon rupture, has been spotted in recent days working with the ball, but Iraola tempers any optimism. “I think it’s complicated with these long-term injuries. He’s still far from being ready.” The medical staff has nevertheless mentioned a possible return during the final two league phase matches in the Ligue des Champions. “There’s a reasonable chance he could help us, but it’s still too early to say,” Iraola concluded.
