Rennes forced to play Olympiakos at 4:30 p.m. due to strike
Following a decision by UEFA, the Europa League match between Stade Rennais and Olympiakos, initially scheduled for November 5, has been brought forward to Wednesday, November 4 at 4:30 p.m. due to a strike planned in Brittany.
Stade Rennais will face Olympiakos in the Europa League on Wednesday, November 4 at 4:30 p.m., after the Prefect requested the rescheduling of the match originally set for Thursday, November 5, a day marked by a major strike.
UEFA decided in favor of this unusual time slot for a regulatory reason: no Europa League match can be scheduled simultaneously with Champions League fixtures, which are played at 6:45 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon therefore emerged as the only available window.
This is the second time this season that the Breton club has suffered a forced rescheduling at home. In August, Stade Rennais had already been forced to accept the reversal of their match against Paris Saint-Germain, with Parc des Princes declared unplayable. This last-minute change had cost the club more than 500,000 euros according to its own estimates. Rennes had requested in compensation to host PSG also in the return fixture, without success.
Facing this new time slot that is unlikely to fill Roazhon Park, SRFC management has announced a specific pricing policy, aimed at young supporters and amateur clubs, in order to limit the impact on attendance.
