Kai Rooney nets four as Man United's U18s rout Burnley 6-0 in Lancashire
Wayne Rooney's 16-year-old son Kai scored four goals as Manchester United's Under-18s demolished Burnley 6-0 on Tuesday, taking his tally to five goals and an assist from just three appearances this season.
Kai Rooney scored four times as Manchester United’s Under-18s beat Burnley 6-0 at the Clarets’ training centre in Lancashire on Tuesday, extending his remarkable start to the 2026/27 campaign to five goals and an assist from three outings.
The 16-year-old opened the scoring after just 22 minutes, reacting sharply to a rebound off the post — following Emmanuel Ziro’s floated ball and a powerful header from Jaume Camacho — to strike low into the bottom right corner with his left foot.
Rooney doubled his tally four minutes into the second half, calmly converting from the penalty spot after being fouled inside the box by Tambwe Leonard. He completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute with a looping header from a Jay McEvoy corner, then added a fourth just three minutes later, again finishing low into the bottom right corner from inside the area.
Camacho rounded off a dominant afternoon with a thunderous finish into the top right corner with eight minutes remaining, before Noah Ajayi completed the 6-0 scoreline in the 84th minute.
The son of England’s all-time leading scorer Wayne Rooney, Kai has been operating on the right flank for United’s youth side and is drawing attention with his natural striker’s instincts and composure in front of goal.
The performance offers a rare bright spot for United supporters at a difficult moment for the club. Manager Michael Carrick has guided the senior side to just one win from their opening eight Premier League fixtures, leaving them 16th in the table and a single point above the relegation zone. United have also failed to win any of their last eight matches across all competitions, with a trip to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday looming as a critical test.
While the first team’s struggles dominate the headlines, the academy’s depth of talent — illustrated by both Kai’s prolific form and Camacho’s contribution against Burnley — provides some encouragement for the club’s longer-term outlook.
