Barcelona tracking €20m move for 16-year-old Atletico Mineiro winger Gabriel Veneno

Barcelona are monitoring Atletico Mineiro academy prospect Gabriel Veneno, 16, with a reported €20m-plus asking price. The Brazilian teenager, compared stylistically to Neymar, cannot join until the summer of 2027 at the earliest, complicating any potential deal.

Barcelona are tracking Atletico Mineiro teenager Gabriel Veneno, with the Brazilian club valuing the 16-year-old at €20m plus add-ons, according to Diario AS. The move faces significant obstacles, including the player’s inability to join until he turns 18 in July 2027 and Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints.

Veneno is regarded as one of the standout young talents in Brazilian football despite having yet to make his senior debut for Atletico Mineiro. A right-sided attacker, he has drawn comparisons to former Barcelona forward Neymar, and Barcelona’s sporting department has been monitoring him closely.

The pursuit follows Barcelona’s failed attempt to sign Rayan Vitor, who joined AFC Bournemouth in January. Veneno appears to be the club’s next focus in a Brazilian market they have tracked for years, undeterred by the underwhelming return on their investment in Vitor Roque.

However, the conditions surrounding a potential transfer are far from straightforward. Atletico Mineiro’s €20m-plus valuation for a player with no first-team appearances is considered steep internally at Barcelona. More problematically, the club’s financial situation makes it difficult to justify spending significant funds now for a player who would not be available for over a year.

Barcelona’s hierarchy is not entirely comfortable with that kind of deferred return, and the deal is currently considered low priority for the upcoming summer window. Whether the club ultimately formalises their interest into a concrete offer remains to be seen, but for now Veneno’s name is firmly on their radar.
