Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, with the 25-year-old becoming the club’s first addition of the summer transfer window. The reported fee is around €80m plus add-ons, with Gordon signing his contract and being presented to the media on Friday after completing a medical in the Catalan capital.

The deal ends a transfer race that had drawn interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich, making Barcelona surprise frontrunners for a player widely expected to remain in the Premier League or move to the Bundesliga. Gordon arrived in Barcelona on Thursday and was later seen dining with his agents, Sporting Director Deco, and Head of Scouting Joao Amaral before formalising the move the following morning.

Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in 2023 for €45.6m and spent three seasons at St James’ Park, making 152 appearances and contributing 39 goals and 28 assists across all competitions. This past season was his most productive in front of goal, with 17 goals and five assists in 46 outings. Ten of those goals came in just 12 Champions League appearances, a return that underlined his ability to perform at the highest level and likely accelerated Barcelona’s interest.

At 25, Gordon arrives at the Camp Nou with considerable top-flight experience and an established place in the England squad. His directness, pressing intensity, and goal threat from wide positions fit the profile Barcelona’s coaching staff have targeted as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of next season.

For Newcastle, the sale represents a significant profit on their original investment, though losing a player of Gordon’s form and age will be a considerable blow as they look to build on their Champions League campaign.
