Barcelona need €30-50m in sales to register Gordon, Silva and Alvarez
Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for €80m and agreed personal terms with Bernardo Silva, but Cadena SER report the club must raise €30-50m through player sales this summer to register all three targets — including striker priority Julián Álvarez — within La Liga's salary limit rules.
Barcelona must generate between €30m and €50m in player sales this summer to register their trio of incoming targets within La Liga’s salary limit, according to Cadena SER. The Catalan club have already signed winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in an €80m deal and reached a personal terms agreement with Manchester City free agent Bernardo Silva, while striker Julián Álvarez remains their stated priority to replace the departing Robert Lewandowski.
Despite La Liga indicating that Barcelona will return to compliance with their salary limit this summer — theoretically allowing them to reinvest all transfer income and wage savings — the club still lacks sufficient room to register all three players simultaneously without first moving others on. The €30-50m sales target is described as variable depending on the final cost of each deal.
Julián Álvarez’s situation carries its own complications. Barcelona regard the Argentina international as their number nine of choice, but questions remain over whether they can fund the fee Atlético Madrid would demand, and whether the Madrid club have any appetite to sell to a direct domestic rival. Bernardo Silva, meanwhile, is weighing Barcelona’s offer against one from Atlético, having left City at the end of his contract.
On the outgoing side, Swedish winger Roony Bardghji is considered the most likely departure given concerns over his playing time under Hansi Flick. Barcelona are also reported to be open to selling Marc Casado, Alejandro Balde, or Jules Koundé if a satisfactory offer arrives, though none of the three players has indicated a desire to leave.
Separately, Ansu Fati is on the verge of joining AS Monaco on a permanent basis for €11m. The forward’s agent Jorge Mendes is finalising the deal after Fati accepted that Gordon’s arrival has ended any realistic prospect of a return to the first-team picture at the Camp Nou.
