Barcelona insist €100m Julian Alvarez offer was emailed to Atletico Madrid on Friday
Barcelona have confirmed to Spanish outlet MD that a €100m opening bid for Julian Alvarez was sent to Atletico Madrid sporting director Mateu Alemany on Friday, directly contradicting Atletico's public denial that any offer had been received.
Barcelona have pushed back against Atletico Madrid’s claim that no offer was made for striker Julian Alvarez, with club sources telling Spanish outlet MD that a €100m bid was emailed to Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany on Friday.
The dispute erupted after multiple outlets reported on Friday that Barcelona had submitted the opening offer for the Argentina international. Atletico responded the same day with a series of social media posts mocking the story, denying any offer had arrived, and reminding the public that Alvarez is not for sale and carries a €500m release clause.
Barcelona sources described by MD as being of “maximum credibility” have since confirmed the offer was sent, contradicting Atletico’s account of events. The nature of the discrepancy — whether the email was received, ignored, or simply not processed through the appropriate channels — has not been clarified by either club.
Despite the public friction, Barcelona are said to have no appetite for a prolonged war of words with their La Liga rivals. The reaction to Atletico’s social media tirade was reportedly unwelcome at Camp Nou, and the club’s preference is to continue their pursuit of Alvarez in a measured, professional manner rather than allow the dispute to become a distraction.
Atletico’s position remains firm: Alvarez is not available at any price short of his release clause, which at €500m is five times the figure Barcelona have reportedly tabled. Whether Barcelona intend to increase their offer or explore alternative routes to a deal has not been disclosed.
