Diego Kochen, the 20-year-old American goalkeeper on Barcelona’s books, is set to depart the Catalan club on a temporary basis this summer, with Danish Superliga side Lyngby Boldklub emerging as the leading candidates to take him on a season-long loan, according to ESPN.

Kochen spent last season rotating between Barcelona’s first team and their reserve side, Barça Athletic. Although he did not feature in a competitive match for the senior squad, he served as third-choice goalkeeper behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, earning a place in 40 matchday squads. He made 20 appearances for Barça Athletic in the fourth tier of Spanish football. His sole first-team outing remains a 2023 friendly against Club América.

Barcelona are understood to be supportive of the loan move, viewing regular playing time as the next necessary step in Kochen’s development. His contract at the Camp Nou runs through 2028, so the club retains full control of his long-term future. Lyngby, who secured promotion to the Danish Superliga at the end of the most recent season, are reportedly open to taking him for the full campaign.

On the international stage, Kochen has been a consistent presence in U.S. youth football, representing the national team at U-16, U-17, U-19, U-20, and U-23 level. Despite being eligible for Venezuela and Peru, he has committed exclusively to the United States. He received two senior call-ups in 2024 and is currently with the U.S. squad this summer as a training goalkeeper alongside Philadelphia Union prospect Andrew Rick — giving both players direct exposure to the World Cup environment.

Kochen is not part of the official U.S. roster and is therefore ineligible to play in the tournament. The United States, coming off a win over Senegal, face Germany next before group-stage matches against Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey.
