Barcelona circle as Kane seeks three-year deal to stay at Bayern Munich
Harry Kane has entered the final year of his Bayern Munich contract and is seeking a three-year extension, with Barcelona and Al-Hilal monitoring the situation as talks are set to begin.
Harry Kane is poised to open contract negotiations with Bayern Munich after entering the final year of his deal, with Barcelona ready to exploit any breakdown in talks over the England captain’s future.
Kane, 33, has been one of European football’s most prolific strikers since his £86.4 million move from Tottenham in the summer of 2023, scoring a remarkable 146 goals in 147 appearances for the Bundesliga club. Last season alone he netted 61 goals in 51 appearances as Vincent Kompany’s side completed a league and cup double.
The striker is seeking a three-year extension to remain in Bavaria, and has indicated he intends to use interest from Barcelona and Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal as leverage in those discussions. “We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday,” Kane said. “So I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week, next week… we’ll start those talks. Like I’ve said before, we’re calm, I think they’re calm with the situation. Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there’s only a year left.”
Bayern are understood to be prepared to offer Kane fresh terms, and the club is well aware that rival suitors are circling. According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona have made their interest known and are monitoring developments closely. The Catalan club have already added Anthony Gordon, Rodri, and Karim Adeyemi this summer but are short of attacking options following the departures of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain and Robert Lewandowski, whose contract was allowed to expire. Despite that need, a move for Kane at this stage is considered unlikely given Bayern’s determination to retain him.
Kane is also in contention for the Ballon d’Or following his record-breaking campaign. “The Ballon d’Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view,” he said. “I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season. The Ballon d’Or’s not in my hands — I’ve done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It’s now down to votes and other people and the media, stuff I can’t control, so we’ll see what happens.”
