Barcelona bid £70m for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon as Bayern Munich also circle
Barcelona have formally registered their interest in Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon with an offer of around £70million, according to reports. The LaLiga champions face competition from Bundesliga side Bayern Munich for the 25-year-old England international.
Barcelona have submitted an offer in the region of £70million for Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon, with the LaLiga champions understood to be in advanced talks with the Magpies, who value the player at approximately £75million. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich had already declared their interest, setting up a potential bidding war for the England international.
The Press Association reports that Barcelona formally registered their interest after Gordon’s performances caught the eye of multiple European clubs. His tally of 17 goals this season — 10 of them in the Champions League, including one against Barcelona — underlines his value on the continent’s biggest stage.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has acknowledged in recent weeks that Gordon could depart St James’ Park this summer, and his decision to leave the 25-year-old out of the squad following the forward’s return from injury was widely read as a signal that a transfer may be imminent. The club has not commented on the reports.
Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton for £45million in January 2023 and has been a central figure in the club’s resurgence, forming a productive attacking partnership with Jacob Murphy. His contribution was a driving force in Newcastle’s run to the 2024-25 Carabao Cup final — a trophy that ended the club’s 70-year wait for major domestic silverware — though suspension kept him out of the final itself. The club also qualified for this season’s Champions League during that period.
Liverpool are also noted long-term admirers, meaning interest extends well beyond Barcelona and Bayern. With multiple elite clubs in pursuit, Newcastle’s valuation of £75million could rise considerably as the summer window progresses — a prospect that may appeal to the St James’ Park hierarchy, which has had to navigate spending restrictions carefully.
Gordon is currently with the England squad preparing for the World Cup finals, where Thomas Tuchel has named him in his squad. His performances on the international stage are likely to sharpen appetites further ahead of what promises to be a busy summer for the Magpies.
