Barcelona agree personal terms with Anthony Gordon in bid to hijack Bayern deal
Barcelona have reached a personal terms agreement with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, 25, and submitted an opening offer of €70m as they look to complete a deal ahead of Bayern Munich and Premier League rivals. Newcastle have set a €92m asking price for the England international.
Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Anthony Gordon and entered direct club-to-club negotiations with Newcastle United, as the Catalan club attempt to hijack a deal that had been progressing between the Magpies and Bayern Munich. Newcastle have set a €92m valuation on the 25-year-old England winger, and Barcelona have submitted an opening bid of €70m, according to reports from Jijantes.
Gordon first caught Barcelona’s attention during their Champions League meetings with Newcastle this season, including a Round of 16 tie in March. The Blaugrana are now moving quickly, with transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that a total agreement on personal terms has been reached and that Barcelona intend to close the deal swiftly — specifically to get ahead of Bayern Munich and any interested Premier League clubs.
Ben Jacobs reports that Gordon has indicated he is open to a move to Barcelona, while broad terms were already in place with Bayern. Newcastle have communicated their valuation directly to both clubs, leaving the two sides to compete for the player’s signature.
The pursuit of Gordon follows Barcelona’s approaches for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez and Chelsea forward João Pedro earlier in the window. According to Gerard Romero, a move for Gordon would not necessarily rule out the club also signing a more traditional centre-forward, with Álvarez and João Pedro still under consideration.
The speed at which Barcelona are pushing to finalise the deal suggests the club are confident of landing Gordon if they can meet Newcastle’s valuation, though a gap of at least €22m remains between the opening offer and the asking price. Whether Newcastle accept a lower fee or hold firm will likely determine whether the transfer is completed in the coming days.
