Arsenal target four summer signings after Champions League final defeat to PSG
Arsenal lost the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in Budapest on Saturday, but the club are already planning an ambitious transfer window targeting a striker, a left-sided attacker, a midfielder, and a right-back.
Arsenal are planning a significant summer transfer push across four positions after losing the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties in Budapest on Saturday evening.
The match finished 1-1 after extra time, with Eberechi Eze and Gabriel both missing in the shootout as PSG claimed the trophy. It was a painful end to a season that also brought Arsenal their first Premier League title in 22 years, and the club’s first Champions League final appearance since their defeat to Barcelona 20 years ago.
Reporting for TNT Sports in the aftermath of the defeat, The Athletic’s David Ornstein outlined the areas Arsenal are looking to strengthen under Mikel Arteta. “The number nine position is interesting,” Ornstein said. “A penny for the thoughts of Victor Gyokeres tonight — his first season, he helped them to this final and then was put on the bench.”
Ornstein identified four priority areas: a centre-forward, a left-sided attacker, a six/eight midfielder, and a right-back. “When you tally up what they’ve got to do, you could see that outlay in the market from last summer repeated or even exceeded,” he added.
Arsenal spent heavily last summer on Gyokeres and Eze to bolster their attack, yet both players began Saturday’s final on the bench. Kai Havertz started as the lone striker and scored Arsenal’s only goal of the match.
On the left-wing front, the Mirror understands Arsenal are among a group of elite clubs interested in signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The 23-year-old can operate as a left-sided attacker or a number ten. There is also speculation surrounding the futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, with reports suggesting Arsenal are keen to add a new left winger ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Ornstein noted that the left side of attack has been a recurring area of focus for the club. “They’ve been looking at it for a few years, and I think this may be the summer where they really go for something,” he said.
