Arsenal have drawn a firm line under any potential sale of Riccardo Calafiori, with sporting director Andrea Berta setting an £86million minimum asking price that appears to have priced Real Madrid out of a move for the Italian defender.

Calafiori attracted interest from the Bernabeu following an impressive Premier League title-winning campaign with the Gunners, but Real’s transfer budget has been significantly squeezed. Marc Cucurella’s £52million switch to the club, combined with a reported £78million bid for Manchester City’s Ruben Dias, has left Jose Mourinho’s side with limited room to manoeuvre. The free transfer of Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool adds further wage commitments, meaning Arsenal’s valuation of Calafiori may simply be beyond reach — particularly with Real still needing reinforcements in midfield and attack.

Among the alternatives reportedly on Real’s radar are Scott McTominay, who has caught attention after two strong seasons with Napoli, and Nico Paz, who could be recalled from Como via a £51million buyback clause. Bids have also been mooted for Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, Lille’s Ayyoub Boaddi, Nordsjælland’s Caleb Yirenkyi, Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi, and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.

For Arsenal, the summer window has yet to produce any confirmed business, though the club appear increasingly likely to trigger their £45million option to make Piero Hincapie’s loan from Bayer Leverkusen permanent — a move that would shore up their defensive depth.

Beyond Hincapie, Arsenal are believed to be monitoring Sandro Tonali’s situation at Newcastle United, with the Italian midfielder also attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. Newcastle, however, value Tonali at over £100million, meaning any pursuit would require a significant financial commitment from whichever club moves first.

The flurry of speculation signals that Arsenal’s transfer window could accelerate quickly once the Hincapie deal is formalised, with Berta apparently intent on strengthening multiple areas of Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of another title challenge.
