Arsenal have confirmed plans to overhaul the Emirates Stadium, with co-chairman Josh Kroenke and CEO Richard Garlick revealing ambitions to increase capacity and improve facilities at the north London ground, which currently holds just over 60,000 supporters.

Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville and Ian Wright, Garlick said the club had been assessing its options for some time. “There’s always ambition at this club. We want to improve in every way we can — the facilities, the stadium, the training ground, engaging with supporters around the world,” he said. “We’ve been looking at these plans for a while now. It’s 20 years since we moved to The Emirates and it feels like a good time to assess this now and see what we can do.”

Kroenke pointed to the club’s other sporting venues in the United States as a benchmark for what Arsenal could achieve. “We have the SoFi Stadium and other facilities in the United States, so we’re going to be working on best practices and try to bring that level over here,” he said. “We want to give Arsenal supporters something special.”

The SoFi Stadium in California has a standard capacity of 70,240, expandable to over 100,000 for major events — figures that illustrate the scale of ambition the ownership group is drawing on. The Emirates currently has a waiting list of 100,000 people for tickets, underlining the demand that any expansion would seek to address.

Kroenke also acknowledged the standard set by local rivals Tottenham Hotspur, whose stadium he described as “beautiful”, while making clear Arsenal intend to match or surpass it. The proposed renovations are reported to include increased capacity, new premium seating, and additional features developed in partnership with architect group Populous.

The announcement follows Arsenal’s Premier League title win this month, their first top-flight championship in over two decades, and signals that the club’s ownership views the current moment as a springboard for longer-term infrastructure investment alongside continued squad development.
