Arsenal plan to sell eight players as Rashford emerges as summer target
Mikel Arteta is set to offload as many as eight players this summer, including Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White, as Arsenal look to fund moves for targets such as Morgan Rogers and Julian Alvarez.
Arsenal are preparing to sell up to eight first-team players this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to reshape his squad following a season in which the Gunners fell just two missed penalties short of a Premier League and Champions League double.
Among those expected to leave the Emirates Stadium are Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson, who spent last season on loan at Hamburg and Brentford respectively. BBC Sport have also reported that the club will listen to offers for Christian Norgaard, Ben White and Ethan Nwaneri. Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus — all of whom enter the final year of their contracts in July — may also be moved on.
The proceeds from those departures are expected to be directed towards Arteta’s priority targets. Morgan Rogers and Julian Alvarez have both been linked with moves to north London, with the pair potentially costing as much as £200 million combined. Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi has also been identified as an alternative option, according to BBC Sport.
Separately, Marcus Rashford has been drawn into Arsenal’s transfer picture. The England international remains contracted to Manchester United but is widely reported to have no intention of playing for the club next season. Rashford’s preferred destination is understood to be Barcelona, where he spent the second half of last season on loan, though the Catalans have since signed Anthony Gordon and are also pursuing Alvarez, complicating any permanent deal.
Former Manchester United and England midfielder Paul Scholes has suggested Arsenal would be an ideal landing spot for Rashford should the Barcelona move fall through. “Barcelona have a deal in place to buy him but I think they’re trying to get him cheaper,” Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast. “That would be a great move, a great move for both parties. I think Arsenal would be a great move for him and the club.”
Arteta has not publicly commented on any of the reported departures or arrivals, and no deals have been confirmed.
